Sources and methodology

Tax articles and tax lessons were source-checked and updated on 2 October 2026. Each includes links to its supporting SARS material. They are publisher-authored educational explanations; we do not claim independent professional certification.

Tax calculator

The calculator estimates additional normal income tax for a South African resident individual. Select either 2025/26 or 2026/27, your age band and capital or revenue treatment. It combines entered disposals with other annual capital gains and losses, applies one annual exclusion, then brought-forward assessed capital losses. A positive net capital gain has a 40% inclusion rate. It compares income tax before and after the included amount using progressive brackets and age rebates.

The annual exclusion is R40,000 for 2025/26 and R50,000 for 2026/27. Enter substantiated base costs yourself. The tool does not choose an accounting method, import transactions, assess mixed capital/revenue portfolios, apply treaty relief or offset trading losses against salary. Medical credits, provisional tax, PAYE and other adjustments are outside this estimate.

Other tools

The classifier shows educational indicators, not a SARS determination. The CARF checklist highlights record gaps, not audit probability or a compliance certificate.

News and market data

News headlines link to their original publishers. We filter older items and duplicate URLs; SA labels require South African references. Sentiment is shown as unavailable unless it has actually been measured. Market figures come from CoinMarketCap in ZAR, with source timestamps. Providers may be delayed or unavailable.
